Also Team of Rivals, Devil in the White City, and Caesar, life of a Colossus, all read in the last couple of years. Oh, and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, another from my youth. Ghost Map ... I'm most of the way through Conquering Gotham I find that it reads a bit like The Devil in the White City, but that the "plot" --if you can call history a plot -- jumps around much less. (There's some character overlap, too, but not so much in the really central people.)

I tried to read Devil in The White City but lost interest. I see this book is read by many LT members. Maybe I'll give it another try. I highly recommend The Dead Zone. There is an older movie with Christopher Walken as the main character. It is very good.
Still making my way through Devil in the White City and finding it much more enjoyable the second time around! A slow read, but extremely entertaining. Although I am itching to dig into The Dead Zone by Stephen King, which I've never read before. Dinner with a friend turned into a trip to B&N, and he was nice enough to pay for some books I wanted:

I had to read Devil in the White City for one of my college courses, and I LOVED it, which really surprised me, since I usually don't go for historical nonfiction. Maybe it's because I've grown up in the Chicago area, so I have a deep love for the city, but I thought it was FASCINATIN ... #3 I just picked up Devil in the White City today from a local thrift store, glad to know its interesting.
I still reading Middlemarch, yes still, but enjoying it a lot. I am also just starting The Forgery of Venus by Michael Gruber. I liked The Book of Air and Shadows so I have ... I'm currently about 100 pages into The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson and am really enjoying it. I've finally replaced my long lost copies of Animal Farm and 1984.

Of those 9, three are on my list of desert-island favorites: Team of Rivals, A Moveable Feast, and Devil in the White City. A couple of other really good ones which came *that* close to being on that list are Stiff, Caesar, Life of a Colossus, and The Civil War by ... ... Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files series). The Book Thief was also a book I read because of LT, as was Team of Rivals, Devil in the White City, The Road, and Thirteenth Tale. And I'm reading Jane Eyre for the first time because 99.9% of LTers have loved that novel. (I am loving it ... Here are mine in no particular order.
